Engine and Tools QA / Embedded AI Tester

With 6 credited QA titles and 2 years experience under my belt at Tt Games I decided it was time for a change and so I accepted a job offer as a member of the engine and tools QA team for Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), this gave more better opportunity to get hands on with in house development tools and complete tasks such as editor smokes, 3DS and Maya Import tests, server and client performance captures and daily sanity checks on the development tools.

After being in the role for 3 months and passing my probation I was promoted internally to Embedded AI QA, which I was in for 8 months before progressing into a design role, my tasks with this role included:

  • Regular AI sanity checks for FPS combat, Social behaviours and Ship AI 

  • Creating whitebox levels and mission scenarios to test new AI functionality 

  • Visual scripting logic within subsumption to identify issues 

  • AI debugging to ensure correct information is passed the to team

  • Validating AI spawning and social behaviours 

  • Ensuring correct functionality of behaviour trees

  • Destructively testing new combat features as they are added into the game 

  • Monitoring AI perception and reaction behaviours across the entire project
